Welcome
COINS OF HOPE CHARITABLE MINISTRIES :
A Vision for Change in Mpoyi, Congo
A decade of community-building, making education a reality and creating economic solutions.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Created in 2010 by Dr. Tshilemalema Mukenge of Atlanta, who was born in Congo, Coins of Hope (COH) has a mission to reduce poverty and introduce skills that improve the well-being and independence of families in Mpoyi through projects in farming, primary education, women’s empowerment, health and sanitation, and adult literacy.
COH works in the village of Mpoyi, in Lomani Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on three properties totaling 44 acres. Our key programs are:
-
The Coins of Hope School: Fulfilling Children’s Dreams of an Education
-
Farming for Food Security and Better Nutrition
-
Sewing for Livelihoods: Creating Income and Self-Sufficiency
-
New Technologies for Life Improvement – Solar Tools, Smokeless Cooking, Vocational Training, and Leadership Training
In a village of 11,200 people, many Mpoyi children did not attend school when COH first joined the community in 2010. Our success comes from collaboration with parents from the village, along with the women’s rural development association. In the U.S. COH enjoys the partnership of a dynamic group of volunteers who raise funds from individual donors, primarily in the Atlanta area.
-
180 students educated per year
-
Two seasons of nutritious crops farmed per year
-
Women are gaining skills and greater voice
-
Mpoyi residents are taking initiative to improve their community
-
A 4-week supplementary education summer program
We work virtually, and through in-person visits. The Mpoyi community is getting stronger and stronger every year, as we join hands to create a stronger future for Congolese children.
